With Father’s Day just around the corner, it’s not too late to start planning something amazing for your military dad! We know it may be hard to try to give them something that would encompass our gratitude for everything they’ve done (they’ve loved you, supported you, taught you how to ride a bike, took out armed forces loans to help pay for school, served to protect this country as well as your family) but at least we can try to come up with new and creative ways to say Thank You! Here are 10 ways to honor your dad this Father’s Day:

1. Send him a care package.

If your dad is serving overseas send a package filled with his favorite treats. Don’t forget to throw in a note about how much you love him. Don’t forget to include some treats for Dad’s fellow servicemen too or make a care package for a military charity. Holidays are hard for soldiers that are away from their families, so this is bound to cheer him up!

2. Breakfast in bed.

Wake up early on Father’s Day and surprise your dad with some extra-large “mancakes” and a big plate of crispy bacon. Everyone loves breakfast in bed.Yum!

3. Find the perfect gift (and save) on a gift for dad.

Take the time to find something special for Dad.  The internet is filled with wonderful Father’s Day gifts and there are sites that can save a bundle while opening your eyes to the perfect, unexpected gift. Shop at TroopSwap and your great deal will also help our troops!

4. Give a handmade card.

Nothing beats handmade!  It may take some time, but the thought is sure to melt Dad’s heart.

5. Wash the car.

Who doesn’t love a clean car? Make dad’s day by taking his ride to the car wash and making sure the inside is squeaky clean. A little interior detailing and an air freshener in Dad’s favorite scent will make this gift extra special!

6. Donate to an organization that supports soldiers.

If your dad has served in the military consider making a donation to a charity that supports our soldiers.  It’s a great way to take after his model of sacrifice. Give to honor all the military men through your donation.

7. Take time to chat.

When was the last time you sat down with your dad for a long chat? Sometimes time is the best gift you can give. Spend some time listening to his stories and learn more about his childhood years or experiences in boot camp.

8. Go on an adventure.

Steal Dad away and see the sights. If the weather is perfect, go for a long afternoon hike or an overnight camping trip. Do whatever it is you love doing – fishing, amusement parks, long drives.  Quality time is time well spent.

9. Mow the lawn.

Dad shouldn’t have to wrestle the mower on his special day. Take over for him and make his lawn the best on the block.

10. Record his story .

Every dad has a story to tell. Take some time to record your dad’s memories. Interview him and record his responses and make sure you include his military service. You can transcribe the interview for a great Father’s Day gift that will be cherished for generations.

Start planning now for a special way to honor your wonderful dad. Every dad is one of a kind and has done so much. The least you can do is make this Father’s day extra-special for him. Happy Father’s Day!

What are you giving your dad for Father’s Day this year? What would you include in a Father’s Day care package?
